A few years ago I looked at Josh and said:

“We need to have more fun.”

And he knew I was right.

We were productive.
Faithful.
Responsible.

And completely exhausted.

We had become experts at responsibilities and amateurs at delight.

Why marriages feel boring:

  • over-scheduling
  • no novelty
  • unresolved stress
  • no dreams
  • no laughter

The Gottman Institute research consistently shows friendship predicts marital longevity.

Calendar audit:

Look at your schedule:
What supports your marriage?
What drains it?

Questions:

When did we last laugh?
Travel?
Dream?
Rest?

Biblical tie:

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Close:

Your marriage may not need therapy.

It may need margin.

It may need fun.

It may need intentional friendship.

  • The other night we tried to have a hard conversation on date night while sitting / TRAPPED / in a car. 😂
At one point we looked at each other and said “we have got to get out of this car and just walk around.”
Hard conversations done with respect and in love are not the problem, that’s growth!
Next time you need to have a hard conversation try to take a walk and see if it helps you slow down, breathe and hear one another better.
  • Feeling disconnected? So normal! However don’t let one day turn into two. Here are some easy tips that have helped us get back to that loving feeling.
  • Don’t go into the weekend defensive. 🤍

Sometimes the most loving thing you can do for your marriage is recognize, “I’m in a funk, and I don’t want to take it out on you.” Awareness is the first step.

It is definitely a tactic of the enemy to keep you stuck in defensiveness so that you are not able to work through problems. When we committed to breaking this cycle it brought amazing benefits!

Whether your marriage is thriving or barely surviving, our prayer is that these short reels and resources would remind you that there is hope.

We don’t speak from a place of having it all together. We speak from a place of experiencing the strength and faithfulness of the Lord. We have known failure. We have walked through deep pain in our marriage. But by God’s grace, we have also experienced the healing, restoration, and abundance that Jesus paid for on the cross.

If He can restore us, He can meet you too.

We’re honored you’re here. If there’s any way we can serve or encourage you, we’d love to hear from you.
